Impact of audience

How does the director make an impact of the audience through the character of Girl?

One way in which the director makes an impact of the audience through the character of girl is by the use of editing, throughout most of the film the film contains loads of small cuts and small clips of the girl doing stuff, this makes the audience think lightly of the girl making us assume that she's just a normal girl and as the film progresses we are shown how the girl is very passionate and is portrayed as talkative and assertive. Towards the end of the film the cuts are being prolonged further and further to show that the girl is about to do something eerie. The cuts are prolonged to prepare us for what was about to happen.

Another way in which the director makes an impact of the audience is through the camera angles, throughout the entire film the camera angle is directly looking at the girl because she is directly talking to the audience, however in certain scenes like scenes with her dad the camera angle shows both of them so we can see that the dad clearly doesn't really care about his daughter, towards the end of the film the camera shot is shown at an angle of a crane wide shot, this is to show what the girl is about to do and follow down the river as the bag goes down the current, also it is to show how "normal" the girl made this look, makes the audience question how this girl's life must be.

The crane shot shows how the girl made this look normal since because it is a wide crane shot where we can see the girl and her surroundings we can also see her gestures and facial expressions, as in how casually she throws the dead baby into the river and how neutral her facial expression is, as if she'd done this before. The way she suddenly stopped talking to the audience and the shot started shifting into a crane shot mirrors how the short film shifter from a light-hearted comedy to a film with a much darker meaning. This has a huge impact on the audience because the entire film is taken lightly by the audience and for the film to shift into a dark meaningful short film leaves the audience shocked by the outcome.

  1. A good effort, Luis! You have mentioned both editing and camera angles, and your paragraphs are focussed on one key aspect of the film. Well done!

Please improve this by looking at the clarity of your work; some of your sentences could be shorter and clearer. Also, please include more references to say with detail how a techniques impacts the audience. For example, how does a crane shot make them look normal?
