Captain Fantastic Opening Scene

The audience's first impressions of the family would be question-filling, "Why are they hunting in the forest", "Do they live in the forest", "Are they part of some tribe?" , etc. At first glance the family looks like a family you'd particularly see in a documentary about tribes which is further embedded when the father does some sort of like tradition with his son saying that "the child is replace by a man" after I assume he just hunted his first deer by himself.
However we are then corrected when we see the family wash themselves, revealing what seem to be explorer type clothing, now we start thinking that maybe it's a family that's lost in the wild after some sort of accident as their clothes seem to be modern but are worn out.
Towards the end of the opening scene the father says "Training in 60minutes" this furthermore confuses the audience because now we're thinking this is some sort of boot camp or survival type training, in the background you can see a couple of sheds which you can visually assume were built by the family.
The impression of the family changes from the beginning of the opening scene to the end, we go from thinking they are some sort of tribe to thinking that they're just stranded in the wild-life.
The usage of camera in this opening scene is mainly hand-held, this is to add a bit of "organic" feeling to the scene as we are in the middle of a forest, nature, trees are visible so we want to make sure this feels as natural as possible. The lighting is bright but dim in some parts to show how the forest trees are tall in the bright beaming sun typically in a tropical rainforest, this sets the location/theme of nature and wildlife.
There is very few cuts in this scene, most cuts are only to show different perspectives and shots are decently long, this adds a some sort of tense in this scene particularly in the shot where the boy is killing the deer.
There isn't any background music and what you can mainly hear in terms of sound is the leaves, water stream and wind. This once again adds into the sense of nature which furthermore supports the theme of wildlife/nature.
