Why is Wallace and Gromit Engaging
Wallace and Gromit is engaging due to its plot, the plot can be split into 5 sectors using Todorov's Theory, Equilibrium, Disruption, Realisation, Resolution and New Equilibrium. Because Wallace and Gromit can be split into 5 sectors using Todorov's Theory it can be said that Wallace and Gromit is a good short film, from Wallace and Gromit living a normal life to Gromit realising that Feathers has an evil plan, this short film is engaging. It starts off with Wallace and Gromit having a normal morning, this would be the equilibrium, the disruption would be when Feathers arrives and joins their lives, realisation is when Gromit realises that Feathers has an evil plan, resolution is when Wallace and Gromit go into this chasing of Feathers and successfully stopping him and the new equilibrium would be Wallace and Gromit going back to having a normal life.
Another reason why Wallace and Gromit is engaging is due to its perfect action scene, while Wallace and Gromit chase Feathers there is a total of 12 parts where something goes good or bad, for example Wallace manages to snatch off Feathers' gun but then crashes through a window. This is an attribute that good action scenes have where something goes good but always has a drawback, or something goes bad but always has a payoff. This scene is considered a perfect action scene which is why I believe it makes Wallace and Gromit more engaging.
Lastly is the binary opposites, Wallace and Gromit are good guys, whereas Feathers is an evil-sinister silent penguin who has nothing but bad intentions behind every action he makes, these two binary opposites are to go against each other and have conflict, another binary opposite in this short film would be humble vs greedy, Wallace and Gromit live a normal humble life whereas Feathers is greedy and wants to steal the diamond so he can be rich. Without these binary opposites the perfect action scene would've never taken place, there wouldn't have been a plot that uses Todorov's Theory, overall withouth these binary opposites the film wouldn't have been as engaging as it is.
