No Country For Old Men - Questions to consider
Do you find the ending of the film to be satisfying resolution ? Why ?
I don't find the ending satisfying but I don't hate it in particular. The reasoning for this was because the I actually enjoyed the film hence the unsatisfying ending. The ending was quite unexpected, I expected at least Moss to survive but he was the first one to die out of the 3, the sheriff completely gave up on the chase because he realised that he wanted to retire and regardless of whether he was going to retire or not he was doing a really bad job and wasn't making any solid progress into getting closer. In most of the scenes that we see of the sheriff he was always sitting down, without a single drop of sweat on his face showing us how he was putting no actual good effort into the case, and when we did see him stand up he'd shortly sit down in the middle of the aftermath of a crime scene just glaring into nothing. Lastly Chigurh got into a really bad car accident where he was severely injured and then he just walks away mysteriously without leaving a trace. The scenes leading up to the ending were unsatisfying because there was gaps in the scene where you'd expect something to happen where nothing actually happens. For example in the scene where the two boys were riding their bikes past Carla's house I was expecting there to be like a gunshot since Chigurh was about to kill Carla but we don't actually hear anything which was quite unsatisfying, we're left with this thought in our heads wondering whether if Carla died or not which mostly assume that she did.
How were you expecting the film to end ?
Originally I thought the film was going to end with some action like you'd expect in a typical western genre film, I thought there would be a shootout between the 3 characters and that only 1 of them would survive assuming it would be Moss however as the film progressed I slowly realised that there wouldn't be any action at the end and that the ending was going to be different but I wasn't sure what it was going to be.
However I like how the ending wasn't typical, even though it was quite unsatisfactory, it stands out from other western films because it's something the audience wasn't expecting.
